HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co.
HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co. produce low-fi, independent Hip-Hop beats that are reminiscent of the genre’s boom-bap golden era of the 90’s. Their low-budget, indie sound is the product of their DIY beat-making philosophy - limited resources = infinite creativity. In the same vein as DJ’s and producers who gave birth to Hip-Hop with nothing more than two turntables and a mic, HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co. believe in making the most of whatever little they may have to produce music, utilising anything and everything to make beats - from household utensils to smartphone apps. The result is a sound that feels real, gritty, unconstrained and authentic.
DIY beat-makers
HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co. wanted to provide their listeners with some insight into what they’re all about as artists, and so this booklet was designed as a record insert, provided with their debut LP ‘Manufactured Elements’. The booklet shares liner notes that describe the group’s work and their history. It was important for this booklet to be a visual representation of HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co.’s ethos and sound, and so every page has been designed to reflect their gritty, DIY Hip-Hop aesthetic and lo-fi style.
Logo design
A selection of logos was required for a number of different projects, including album covers, T-shirts, social media posts and merchandise. HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co. liked the idea of using different logo styles for different projects, and felt this would add some interesting variety, expanding the look of their brand without stemming too far from their signature style.
Lo-fi Charm
HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co. are always keen to engage with their audience via social media by sharing what they’re currently working on. Posts like this usually include unreleased material, throwaway beats and projects that are work-in-progress. Producing visuals to compliment the audio enhances the content for social media, making it more dynamic and engaging for HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co.’s audience.
Manufactured Elements
This promo video was designed to support the launch of HIATUS BEAT TAPE Co’s debut album ‘Manufactured Elements’. The video was inspired by the album’s concept, which likens their beat-making process and work ethic to a manufacturing production line.
